Delta Burke Swimsuits

From LoveToKnow Plussize

(Redirected from Delta Burke Swimwear)

Delta Burke swimwear does more for full-figured ladies than most bathing suits -- they not only help masquerade a body's imperfections, but also enhance its positive features.

What Makes Delta Burke Swimwear Different?

This swimwear, created by Delta Burke Design, helps plus size women feel better about wearing bathing suits. The colors and patterns are bold, slimming and flattering, while the styles are flirty, creative and fun. The swimwear is designed especially for plus size women; they are not average size suits made in larger sizes. They offer support and coverage and are moderately priced.

The swimsuits are made with built-in, soft-cup bras with a one-inch elastic band. They also come with tummy and back control netting and moderately cut legs. The fabric is made for comfort, easy stretching and quick drying. Most of the suits come in dark (black, brown or blue) with complementary vibrant colors and cuts. Most come in sizes 16W-24W. These bathing suits are definitely designed for plus-sized gals! And most important, they are available at many locations! While there are two-piece skirtinis and tankinis available, the majority of styles come in one-piece designs including:

  • High-necked bathing suits
  • Swimdresses
  • Halter bathing suits
  • Tank swimsuits
  • V-neck swimsuits

About Delta Burke Design

Swimwear is just one of a number of fashions created by actress Delta Burke, a plus-sized actress and producer known for her role as Suzanne Sugarbaker on the 1980s-1990s sitcom, Designing Women. She started up Delta Burke Design in New York City in 1994, and her line is made up of "real-size clothes for real-size women." Burke's philosophy is that women of size should look and feel their best without having to spend a lot of money on a wardrobe. Besides swimsuits, her fashions also include lingerie, casual clothing and sportswear.

Choosing a Swimsuit

Most women despise going swimsuit shopping, especially after a long winter indoors. It's hard not knowing what looks good on you, or worse, if it will fit. Plus size suits are no different. If shopping locally for a bathing suit, take your time and really look around for a well-fitting suit. If shopping online, make sure you take a look at the site's size chart to determine what size you need. Here are some shopping pointers:

  • Always wear undergarments when trying on suits (some women really don't get this!).
  • Start by choosing the size you normally wear.
  • Two-piece suits are easy to remove when using the restroom.
  • Vertical stripes and dark colors help slim your appearance.
  • Make sure you find one with a built-in soft or underwire bra; shelf bras do not offer much support for larger-chested ladies.
  • Skirted suits help camouflage larger bottoms and thighs.
  • Think about purchasing a sarong to wear out of the water.
  • Wider straps offer more support than thinner ones.

Shopping for Delta Burke Swimsuits

While there is no official Delta Burke Design Web site, her fashions can be found at any number of locations, mainly online, but also locally at JCPenney. Online, her swimwear can be found at:

  • Swimsuits for All has several styles of one- and two-piece designs.
  • Always for Me sells several types of Delta Burke swimdresses.

A Final Thought

When you go to the beach or pool this summer, remember that you will not be the only plus-sized lady there. Take pride in yourself and your appearance. A proper-fitting swimsuit will make you look and feel your best in and out of the water.
