Dress Barn Plus Size
From LoveToKnow Plussize
Dress Barn plus size options for women provide fashion and style that was once available only in smaller sizes. It targets the career woman and also offers quality casual clothing.
History of the Dress Barn
The Dress Barn first opened its doors in 1962 in Stamford, Connecticut. A woman by the name of Roslyn Jaffe recognized a need for women's designer clothing as well as functional but fashionable clothing for the workplace. After just one year, business was booming and she opened a second store. It didn't take long for her husband, Elliot, to join the business as well. Together, they built a company known for its quality, style and customer service. They did it all and still offered affordable prices. That product and service has continued to pay off and today the Dress Barn has more than 800 locations.
Dress Barn Plus Size Line
In 1988 the Dress Barn embarked on a new venture and set up eight plus-size women's stores known as the Dress Barn Woman. They had listened to their customers who said they needed stylish clothes in larger sizes. These eight Dress Barn Woman stores were a test to see if there was really a market for their plus size line. It didn't take long to see that the need for plus size designer clothing and quality casual apparel made for the fuller figure was in demand. At the time Elliot Jaffe said, "We thought they deserved a store of their own. If we were going to do it right, that's the way to go."
Right from the start, Dress Barn Woman catered to the plus size career crowd following the same business plan that established Dress Barn as a successful venture. Approximately 80 percent of their stock targeted older, career-oriented women.
All these years later, the Dress Barn continues to feature the same career and casual clothing that made them a success in the first place, and today the Dress Barn plus size section marketed as Dress Barn Woman is equally as successful. This clothing line also includes brand names and private label products such as:
- Sportswear
- Dresses
- Suits
- Blazers
- Accessories
