Extended Size Rain Clothes
From LoveToKnow Plussize
Extended size rain clothes are important for anyone whose job or hobbies often have them out in inclement weather. While plus size clothing is becoming easier to find, especially in modern styles, finding extended sizes is more of a challenge. When it comes to rain clothes, which is apparel that not everyone feels is necessary, the challenge becomes even greater. However, for people who need them, it's important that they have a choice when it comes to shopping.
Rain Clothes as Necessity
The good thing about rain clothes is that they're made to withstand bad weather, so they usually last a long time. If you find the extended size rain clothes you need, you may never have to buy more. Rain clothes come in handy if you:
- Work on a boat: If you work on a fish or shrimp boat, you probably spend more time wet than dry. To prevent chills and illness, it's important for you to stay as dry as possible. Rain clothes and boots can help you do this.
- Live in a wet climate: Some places see more rain than others. If you live in an area that sees more than its share of rainfall, rain clothes may be necessary for you to get anywhere without getting soaked.
- Have outdoor hobbies: If you love to garden and you need to tend to your plants and flowers when the ground is wet, wearing rain clothes will keep you dry while taking part in your favorite activity. Or if you like to go white water rafting, having rain clothes is important for keeping you from getting completely wet while paddling downriver.
- Attend outdoor sporting events: If you're a baseball or football fan and you have season tickets for your favorite team, you don't want to miss a game. There may be times it rains and some sport venues don't allow you to bring umbrellas inside. You can carry your raincoat along in the event the weather turns bad and not worry about being soaked by the time the game ends.
Buying Extended Size Rain Clothes
If you're having trouble finding the large size raincoat you need, you may have to shop in the men's department, where sizes are bigger. Raincoats are a rather universal item and only you will probably be able to tell it's a man's coat. Here are some places to check out for garments suitable for wearing in the rain:
- One Stop Plus, a plus size retailer, carries a Weather Solutions raincoat in red, blue or black. It comes in regular plus sizes and extends up to a size 4X.
- Orvis carries a man's lightweight rain jacket that comes in sizes up to men's XXL (50-52), which could accommodate a woman's extended size. This jacket is available in black or blue.
- Backcountry sells a lot of clothing for outdoor activities. You may be able to find rain pants at this site, but you'll probably have to look in the men's section for sizes that will fit those who need extended size gear.
You can purchase a poncho if finding a raincoat is yielding you few results. Ponchos don't have to fit perfectly and are able to fit a variety of sizes.
Sizing it Right
If you have to shop in the men's department for rain clothes that fit, you may find the pants and sleeves are too long for you, particularly if you're a petite. You can take your clothing to a talented seamstress or tailor and they should be able to shorten any pant legs or sleeves so that your rain clothes fit you properly.
Staying Dry
Even with the best rain clothes on, you may still get a little wet. However, you'll stay much drier than if you had on no raincoat or rain pants at all. While you may not be the most fashionable woman around, you will likely be the driest and that means a lot, whether you're out in the rain for work or for pleasure.
