Extended Sizes Bras
From LoveToKnow Plussize
Women of size were once limited to granny-style bras to fit their full figures, but today, extended sizes bras offer fashionable plus sizes that feel sexy and offer proper fit.
Finding The Right Bra Fit
If you're a plus size woman who's proud to be curvaceous, finding a bra that fits can make you feel sexy and confident, so when buying a bra, don't settle for an ill-fitting garment. If you do, it will affect your overall appearance; the lack of proper support, straps that dig into your shoulders or bands that cut off your circulation can be uncomfortable. Today, finding the right bra size is made a little easier with extended sizes. Even with that, large busted women buying extended sizes bras from a manufacturer for the first time should try the garment on. When you do, here's what to look for:
Proper Band Fit
The band of your bra is the part that fits around your ribcage. Fit should be snug but comfortable when hooked on the middle clasp. If you find yourself tugging your bra band into place because it's riding up, that means the bra size is too big and as a result, the bra doesn't offer needed support and breasts may sag.
Another indicator that your band size is too big is when your breasts are slipping out from under the front of the bra. If the band is not flat against your rib cage, the band is not the right size. If this is the case for you, pick a smaller band size and larger cup size.
This is where extended sizes bras can offer the perfect fit and comfort. The rule of thumb to follow when you downsize your band size is to increase your cup size by about ½ inch. When you think you've found the right fit, raise your arms to be sure the band stays in place. If the front of the bra moves away from your your body, tweak your sizing a little more.
Choosing the Right Cup Size
When you find the right band size, if your breasts are still spilling out over the top of your cups, it's time to find a cup size that fits. What does that mean exactly? It will depend on the bra style you choose. For the most part, cups should cover your entire breast. If you are buying a sexy push-up style bra, that's an exception, but even then, you don't want to have too much over-the-cup spillage that gives an unattractive, bulging appearance. Instead, you want your bra to be almost invisible under your clothes. That's one of the advantages to extended sizes--no extra bulges. To pass the test, your bra should look great even under a tee-shirt.
- Full cups offer great coverage, ample support and often are available with underwire.
- Demi-cup is ideal to wear with low or scooped necklines.
- Soft cups provide a soft, natural shape with support.
Straps
Wide bra straps are a crucial element when buying plus size bras because they offer the support you need. It is not uncommon for full figured women to develop back problems because the uneven weight distribution caused by their breasts puts a strain on the back. Wide straps help to alleviate that strain and they don't dig trenches into your shoulders.
