Plus Size Easter Dresses
From LoveToKnow Plussize
When spring comes around, it’s time for celebration and you need to shop for the perfect plus size Easter dresses to wear to church or an egg hunt or a garden party. Whatever age you are, spring is all about renewal and looking fresh, youthful and pretty.
Styles of Plus Size Easter Dresses
When you think of an Easter dress, you probably think of something that looks like a little girl’s birthday cake – lots of light pink and lace and ruffles. This is a lovely dress – for a little girl. But for anyone in their teens or above, something more flattering is required. Not so long ago, it was expected that a plus size woman would want to wear ruffles. Puffed sleeves and an excess of detail were said to distract from a woman’s curves. Fortunately, designers now understand how to create dresses for the fuller figure that are appropriate for the season and the woman wearing the dress.
An Easter dress should be a light color. It doesn’t have to be pastel, necessarily, as this does not suit all skin tones, but it should be distinctly spring-like. Floral patterns are not required, but they certainly feature in most Easter frocks and no wonder – spring is the time when all the flowers start to bloom again, and this was traditionally acknowledged in women’s attire.
The traditional look, of course, was the “Easter bonnet” – a great hat that was adorned with flowers and perhaps feathers. If your Easter outfit includes a hat, your dress should be simple so as not to make your overall look too busy. A dress in a solid pattern and basic cut will work best when wearing a big hat.
Easter Shopping
If you are shopping for plus size Easter dresses for little girls, you’ll find that most choices are empire waist dresses in a simple, A-line cut. For online shopping, try Sophia’s Style, which has dozens of Easter dresses and a separate section of plus sizes as well. The clothes are all offered at a discount and you can even opt for custom embroidery, should you wish it.
For older girls and women, what you need is a good spring dress. And because the weather can be variable that time of year, a dress that includes a matching wrap, such as a bolero or cardigan, is ideal.
At Just for Curves (formerly Mimi’s Curvy Corner), there is an excellent selection of dresses year round. While their clothes are always affordable, winter is a great time to hit their clearance page in the hopes of finding a great dress that would be perfect for the upcoming Easter. The Aqua-Print Tie-Back dress, for example, in sizes 1-5X, is great to wear all through spring. Its cross-over bust is very flattering to serious curves and the black tie under the bust can tie in the front or back. Another very grown up plus size Easter dress is the Lemon Halter Dress with a fun above-knee cut. It buttons up the front and ties at the waist. The skirt is a flirty A-line and the dress is trimmed in satin for extra elegance. Pair it with a flowery headband and sparkly sandals for the perfect “winter is over” look.
For even more grown up dresses, The Avenue always has a good selection of flattering frocks for women from size 14 to 32. Something like the Michela Printed Dress is a bit different for Easter, but the sleeveless sheath style renders it classic, even if the geo-print is unexpected. Top it with a wide black hat trimmed in contrasting yellow and strappy black sandals.
While many women like to wear sundresses for Easter, you do need to be prepared. It may be sunny, but that doesn’t mean it will be warm and so a linen dress might be too cool for an outdoor party. You’ll do best to bring an extra wrap. You can be more traditional (what some may call old-fashioned) and carry some gloves as well!
