If you've never modeled but have always wanted to, before you enter a contest, you may want to consider working on your posture and performance before competing.   • Spotlight Model at PLUS Model Magazine – This is an ongoing contest that picks a winner monthly. The winner is featured in PLUS Model Magazine. To qualify for this contest, you have to register in the magazine's PLUS Model Directory and you must have a valid online portfolio. If you win, you'll be required to show written proof that the magazine has permission to use photographs and fill out a short questionnaire to be used in the issue. Models who win appear in the magazine as an "Up-and-Coming" plus-size model, and while no financial compensation is offered, this feature will make a great addition to any portfolio.
  • Venus Diva Magazine Cover Model Contest – This contest offers the chance to be the next cover model for Venus Diva Magazine. You can register for this contest online, but first you'll have to register for free membership at the Venus Diva Community. This online magazine publishes stories for and about plus-size women along with:
  • Venus Diva Magazine: Connect With Christy – The winner of this second Venus Diva Magazine contest will be chosen based on questions provided by Curvy Confidence Editor, Christy. As the winner, Christy will write an article about you.
  • MinxModels -- This contest is a great chance to meet more than 100 international modeling and casting agents. If you win, the prize includes an all-expense paid, six-day package to take part in the Los Angeles Model & Talent Search in Los Angeles, California, which runs from January 5 - 10, 2009. To enter the contest, fill out an online entry at ModelScouts.com. The prize, which is valued at $8995 (U.S.), also includes a photoshoot, airfare and hotel accommodations.
  • Canada's Plus Size Model Contest – This contest is open to women who are residents of Canada. A complete list of applicable rules can be found online. The first place winner will receive a one-year modeling contract.
  • Plus Size POWER 2009 Model Diva Showcase Competition – This competition offers a number of possibilities. Depending on the particular competition, models must be either 14 years of age or older or 13 years-old and up. Models can enter online or participate in live competitions for just $10.00. Validate Contests Before Participating

While many plus size model searches are legitimate, before you sign up for any modeling contest, be sure to check that it is a valid contest or pageant, because unfortunately, there are those out there running scams and taking advantage of people who dream of finding success in the modeling industry. Don't let these people con you.

  • Get a copy of contest terms and conditions in writing.
  • Ask if the agency putting on the contest is bonded or licensed.
  • Get them to put verbal promises in writing.
