Plus Women Golf Clothing
From LoveToKnow Plussize
Stylish plus women golf clothing might not improve your game, but you will sure look terrific on the course.
Golf Clothes For All Sizes
Golf is a fantastic low-impact sport for getting fit and beginning the weight-loss process. Some women find that golf is a comfortable way to become more active while meeting new people.
Many of the major golf apparel manufacturers such as Nike, Adidas and Ashworth have increased their size range to include fashions to size 20. By shopping online, you can find a wider range of sizes and styles. These "made for golf" styles are often expensive because of the brand name. Consider buying casual separates instead. Your selection of sizes and fabrics will be greater.
Clothes Can Make the Game
What you wear might also affect how well you play. Well-fitting clothes in comfortable fabrics will let you concentrate on your swing, not how you look.
Shirts
Look for collared shirts, such as stretchy knit polo shirts. Some golf courses won't allow players on the links without a collared shirt. Some courses only hold male players to this rule, since they are selling v-neck collarless shirts in their pro shops made for women by major golf apparel manufactures. Plus size women like the v-neck shirts since they flatter a fuller neck.
Sweaters and Vests
A sweater or vest is a must for early morning games. You can always stash it in your golf bag on the third tee after you, and the weather, have warmed up a bit.
Pants
Many women find skorts, long shorts and capris to be the most comfortable pant styles for the course. However, if you play in cooler climates, you might find that longer pants are necessary to keep your legs warm.
Be sure that your pants have pockets to carry your score card, pencil and ball marker. You don't want to have to return to your bag every time you need to mark your ball.
Belts
Some golf skirts and shorts have belt loops; so, you really need to wear a belt. Belts can constrict your swing; so, if your waistband does not have belt loops, consider avoiding a belt.
Socks
If you play 18 holes you could be on your feet for four to five hours. Your feet will stay cool and comfortable if you wear the right socks. Avoid cotton socks that absorb perspiration. Instead, look for fibers that are quick drying, wick away perspiration and remain comfortable throughout your game.
Be sure you wear a sock that is long enough and wide enough for your foot. Don't sacrifice comfort just to have a super-stylish golf sock.
Shoes
Pro shops typically have a small inventory of golf shoes. They tend to specialize in carrying the most popular sizes and widths since they have a small stock room. You will probably find a larger selection of styles and sizes online at shoe retailers such as ShoeBuy.com or Golfsmith.
Hats and Visors
Always wear a hat or visor so that you can stay cooler and avoid exposure of your face to the sun. Look for a hat with a bill for maximum shading and to protect you from facial skin cancer. If you also wear sun glasses you might just slow down those eye wrinkles caused by squinting in the hot afternoon sun.
Gloves
If you wear a golf glove and you have larger hands, a man's glove may be more comfortable for you than a woman's glove. A man's glove also tends to have longer fingers than a woman's glove; so, it's great if you have long fingernails.
Tips for Building Your Golf Wardrobe
- Wear what you like – Golf requires focus and concentration. You should wear colors and styles in which you feel very comfortable. You should be concentrating on your game, not your clothes.
- Stick with a brand – Golf clothing seems to be very consistent within brands. So, if you find a pair of well-fitting shorts in your size, don't be afraid to order them online in your size.
- Shop for comfort – You need to be able to move freely in order to play your best game. Look for styles and cuts that give you the freedom to swing, bend and squat down during your game. It's always great to look terrific; but, if you are not able to move freely, you won't play your best game and you won't be able to bend enough to get your ball out of the cup!
- Pay more for good fabric – Look for fabrics with Lycra or Spandex for freedom of movement. Also look for fabrics that keep you cool by wicking away perspiration.
- Wear the right size – Clothes that are too big may feel comfortable; but, they could get in the way of your swing.
- Watch for pro shop sales – Pro shops often put clothes and shoes on sale when they are overstocked or getting ready for a new shipment. Be sure you stop in the pro shop every time you play, since the pro shop does not advertise in the local papers and actually being in the shop may be the only way to learn about the potential savings.
