Sheer Full Figure Bra
From LoveToKnow Plussize
When shopping for a sheer full figure bra, remember that support is your primary concern if you wear this bra outside of the bedroom.
Look for Support
You'll find sheer bras with varying degrees of sheerness. Bras that feature cups with an upper sheer half and a lower lined half, as well as thick supportive straps, can offer you a fair amount of support. These bras are fine for wearing during the day.
Bras that feature completely sheer cups, however, won't always offer you a great deal of support. These bras generally are for intimate evenings, and because of this, support isn't the primary concern – attractiveness is. They may feature sheer cups with lacy or floral details for the ultimate in a feminine bra.
If you like sheer or partly sheer bras for daily wear, look for the most supportive options you can find. This will include a wide band and thick straps for your comfort.
Wearing a Sheer Bra
If you wear a sheer bra under your clothing, keep these tips in mind:
- Don't wear with tight-fitting tops: If you like form-fitting tops, that's great, but you should probably avoid wearing sheer bras beneath them. A completely sheer cup won't provide the coverage you need to avoid a potentially embarrassing, transparent experience. Even bras that feature half-sheer cups are sometimes too lacy and decorative to wear beneath tight tops. Shirts that fit close to your skin require solid-colored, seamless bras underneath. Your undergarments aren't supposed to call attention to themselves.
- Combine sheer with sheer the right way: You can wear a sheer bra with a sheer top, but do it the right way. For nightclubbing or for times you want to add some sexiness to your look, wear a sheer bra with a slightly sheer top in the same color. Your shirt can be sheer, but not completely see-through. For more coverage, you can slip a sheer camisole over your bra. This is strictly an evening look and is not suitable for the office.
- Rotate sheer bras with more supportive options: For women with ample bustlines, sheer bras (particularly those with completely sheer cups) don't offer the same support that non-sheer bras do. It's better to rotate your more supportive bras with your sheer ones, instead of wearing sheer bras all of the time. This way, your breasts routinely get the support they need.
- Look for comfortable underwire: If you require a great deal of support in your bra, choose sheer bras with underwire. Today's underwire bras are usually comfortable, so this shouldn't be too difficult. Choosing a bra without underwire can leave your bust sagging and unsupported, which won't do anything for your silhouette or posture.
Where to Find a Sheer Full Figure Bra
Your first stop when shopping for bras should be your local lingerie shop, department store or plus size retailer. It's always a good idea to try on bras before buying because bra sizes aren't uniform from manufacturer to manufacturer. One brand's 40DD won't necessarily fit like the next one. If you're comfortable buying online, consider these lingerie retailers who carry a variety of sheer full figure bras:
- Lavinia Lingerie has a selection of plus size bras in varying degrees of sheerness. These bras are very feminine; make sure you choose those with thicker straps if you require a good deal of support.
- Her Room carries a large collection of plus size bras. There are some semi-sheer options that will work both in and out of the bedroom.
- Pampered Passions has semi-sheer and sheer bras in very sexy styles.
Whatever type of sheer bra you choose, your first consideration is that it fits you well and gives you the support you need. After that, have fun choosing your colors and patterns. For intimate encounters, sheer bras allow you to leave something to the imagination while still being sexy.
