Women's plus size white wide leg pants are a classic style. Plus size retailers present them every year as part of their spring collections. The styles may range from straight legs to flared legs. The fabrics may include any of the traditional warm-weather fabrics such as gauze, cotton, linen, rayon or polyester.

You will maximize the amount of wear you receive from your pants if you purchase pants with good fabric, a flattering style and fit as well as quality construction.

Fabric

• Fiber source – Natural fabrics such as cotton, rayon and silk allow airflow and will feel cooler than pants made of polyester or polyester blends.
• Transparency – Some thin white fabrics can appear transparent in bright sunlight, showing skin and undergarments.
• Washability – White pants may require frequent washing since they show dirt and stains more than darker colors. Check the garment tag to be sure the pants are hand or machine washable.

Style

Fit

• Waist – There should be enough clearance in the waistline to allow you to insert four fingers. This will allow you to sit comfortably. Many plus size pants have elastic around the entire waistline which adds to their comfort. You can still have the comfort of elastic plus the look of a flat front if you look for pants with elastic only on the sides or in the back. All pants, regardless of whether they have elastic or not, should have belt loops if you plan to wear a belt.
• Hips – The pants should be loose enough around the hips to allow at least an inch of fabric to be pinched on each side. Allow about an additional one-half inch in width for seating comfort if the fabric does not stretch.
• Thighs – There should be enough ease around the thighs to allow you to sit down comfortably without the legs being too tight or riding up.
• Length – Flare leg pants should reach your shoes. Straight leg pants may be designed to be either mid-calf or ankle-length.

Construction

• Seam width - Seams should be at least one-half inch from the seam to the edge of the fabric. A smaller seam will break apart over time.
• Seam finish - The edge of the fabric should be finished either by stitching over the edge or hemming the edge. Finishing will prevent raveling which can, in time, cause the seam to break apart.
• Pockets – Many plus size pants do not have pockets since they tend to add bulk over the hip area, making the hips appear wider. If there are pockets, look for a pocket style that lays flat against your hip. Turn the pants inside out to make sure the stitching at the bottom of the pocket is tight and will not pull out.
• Hem – The hem should be at least one inch deep and should be finished to avoid fraying. The hem should not be visible from the front of the pants.
