Hi Debbie. If you're trying to make your face appear longer and less round, you're looking for volume on top. You might want to consider wispy or asymmetrical bangs, wearing your hair parted on one side and try volumizing shampoos, conditioners and products. I think chin to shoulder length is good for you. I wouldn't suggest going shorter unless you're going for a style with closely tapered sides and a high crown, but since you can't get perms, you'd have to work to get volume another way. If you have a regular stylist, try consulting with him or her, too, to see if they can make some helpful suggestions based on your age and lifestyle.

Currently my hair is shoulder length, thin and straight. Any suggestions on styles that would help longate my face? I can't get a perm because of the medications I take, it makes my hair fall out. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, Debbie

Hi Dee. Asymmetrical bangs are usually quite flattering on a variety of face shapes. Glad you've found a style that looks great on you! You can always try a wig if you want something different and you're not sure how you'll like it. :-)

I found layering with bangs that come down on one side to my check seems to get me the most compliments. I wear my hair long because my hubby loves long hair, and I just look funny with anything shorter. I love to one day try a chunky short hair cut with tons of highlights though :)

Hi Debbe. Without knowing what your hair texture is, it's kind of hard for me to judge. Is your hair straight, wavy, curly? Do you perm it?

If you go with the chunky layered look, make sure you have some height on top; that won't make your face look so round. And your bangs should be wispier and/or asymmetrical instead of heavy and flat.

If you have a beautician who you trust, I'd ask his/her opinion, as well as taking in some photos of what you have in mind to better help them visualize what you want.

I am looking for a good hair cut for plus sized women (which I am) I am 56 years old and I don't want an old woman look, I now have length past my shoulders, and shnorter on the sides with bangs. I would like to try the chuncky layered look (I have a round face) about shoulder length. What do you think?

Great tip, Christina! I agree. I have a round face and parts do help. Pulling all the hair straight back from the face is normally not a good look unless your face is perfectly oval. Thanks!

Another hairtip for plus size women...part your hair to one side or the other. I don't mean a centimeter to one side; make your part noticeably to one side. It elongates the face and brings more attention to your beautiful features! Parting your hair when pulled back in a ponytail helps as well.
