Pat, it may be because certain patterns are just tricky to find online. My search did yield a few results using your search terminology, but you might have better luck visiting a fabric store and consulting with an associate about available patterns. Good luck.

When I put in "plus size float dress patterns" I surely didn't get float dresses. If there are no patterns for such, why do I not get "nothing found under this search request".

This article would be much more helpful if it contained direct links to patterns that would actually yield plus size clothing. Almost every pattern listed goes up to a pattern size 18-22, which is a 14-18 in regular clothing sizes. Yeah. Not too helpful for the truly plus sized.
